Hi, I’m Anna
I’m the director and principal teacher at SpanishCalls, and an experienced online Spanish and Catalan teacher from Barcelona.
I teach learners at very different stages, from complete beginners to advanced and proficient speakers. I specialise in advanced Spanish: identifying errors that have become habits, helping learners express themselves more naturally and working on the language they need for their own interests, profession or circumstances.
Learning Spanish means using Spanish
My approach is communicative. We work on grammar and vocabulary, but always with a purpose: giving you the tools to communicate in the situations we are practising.
That applies from the very beginning. Even if you start with no Spanish at all, you will be able to communicate about specific topics from your first lesson.
I also believe that learning a language means developing all your language skills. Understanding a text is not enough if you cannot follow someone speaking to you; understanding someone is not enough if you cannot respond; and when you write an important message, accuracy matters too.
That is why we work on speaking, listening, reading and writing, together with grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. The balance depends on your level and what you need Spanish for.
Spanish lessons that adapt to you
Especially in one-to-one lessons, there is a learning plan, but it is not set in stone. We can spend more time on something you find difficult, work with a film or podcast you are interested in, explore vocabulary for a specialist subject or change direction when something important comes up.
I correct mistakes, but not constantly. Sometimes we focus closely on accuracy; at other times, I give you the space to speak and develop fluency.
A language teacher and a language learner
I’m a language learner too. I study English and I’m currently learning German, so I know what it feels like to be a beginner.
I also love cinema, literature, languages and travelling around Spain, and I enjoy bringing my curiosity into my lessons. I have even adapted role-playing games for the classroom.
So there is a good chance we will find something interesting to talk about.
Which Spanish lessons are right for you?

And if you live in Spain or are preparing to move here, Spanish for Real Life in Spain gives you the opportunity to practise the language you need for everyday situations.
Ms. Anna was really nice and friendly. She helped me understand the difference between Por and Para. Sometimes, I still confused the two. However, she taught me a different approach on distinguishing Por and Para. She even let me save the Power Point presentation for future reference. Gracias, Anna por tu ayuda. 😘

I am so glad I found Anna as my Spanish teacher! We do weekly private classes and it helped develop my Spanish ability on all levels. Especially the speaking which was my biggest wish. I love that her classes are fun and personal, paired with her deep knowledge and passion for the language. She adjusts every class to fit my needs and has been very accomodating in scheduling. She is a gem of a teacher and I can highly recommend her! And in Spanish 😀 Anna es una profesora maravillosa que crea clases divertidas, personalizadas y atractivas. ¡La recomiendo muchísimo! Gracias, Anna, por ayudarme a mejorar mi español.
